Computational and Data Science are key disciplines of present and future research. Computational methods and mathematical analysis are used for simulation, prediction, data evaluation, analysis, risk assessment, development, and optimisation, and can be found virtually everywhere.

For instance: structural and fluid mechanics simulations are used to understand the performance of aircraft designs in aviation; the simulation of electro-physiological models is used to understand how specific surgical procedures (e.g. ablation) might affect the electrical signals in the heart;

in geophysics, phase-field and elasticity models are used to simulate fracture propagation in brittle materials such as rocks.
