The SDGs and USI. Clean and accessible energy

Institutional Communication Service

The climate issue is one of the significant challenges of our time. Globally, greenhouse gas emissions have increased by 6 billion tons of CO₂, equivalent to nearly 49 billion. Despite the commitment of several countries to reduce their environmental impact, the journey towards sustainable energy sources is still long. A decisive role in this field is played by technology, especially computational science, which seeks concrete solutions to this problem through simulations and mathematical models.

UN Goal 7 aims to ensure access to clean and sustainable energy for all. We tackle the issue with Rolf Krause, Director of USI Istituto Eulero; Suzanne Suggs, Professor at USI Faculty of Communication, Culture and Society; Massimo Filippini, Professor at USI Faculty of Economics and at the Department of Management, Technology and Economics ETH Zurich.

The series: #Fucine (forges). Perspectives for shaping today and tomorrow.

Some of the significant challenges of the modern world and the role of knowledge in understanding and facing them. Starting from the UN 2030 Agenda goals for Sustainable Development (SDGs), we propose a series of ten articles in collaboration with Corriere del Ticino on the occasion of USI's 25th anniversary. With the guidance of USI experts, we present and ponder the areas of knowledge in which our University is active - architecture, communication, law, economics, computer science, medicine and biomedicine, public health, computational science, data science and the humanities - and their role in forging ideas, perspectives and visions to help shape the present and the future. Each article will begin with a UN objective and three angles: one will offer a more in-depth snapshot, the other two complementary "flashes".
